Fiat is Latin for let it be done. Moria is Erasmus's word for folly. Fiat Moria redraws Bruegel's Netherlandish Proverbs for the fiat age, a village where every proverb is a policy and the folly holding it all up is the money.

Fiat is not a noun. It's Latin for let it be done. A decree, issued once, and nobody was asked. Bruegel painted that fury in 1563 and called it a sin. I keep the fury and move the sin upstream, to the machine with a dollar sign burning in its throat. One word is cut into the gate above the field: VERIFY. Everything else is a consequence of whether it was followed.
